Yoshiki - Somewhere in 1997
I = Interviewer
Y = Yoshiki (Leader, drummer/pianist)
Well, let's talk about your first time in Tokyo.
I-
Y-
This time?  I first came with Toshi, but our goal weren't studies.  We came to find new members.
I-
Which one has been the first?
Y-
Taiji was the first one, then hide and Pata joined.
I-
Were you satisfied by the members at that time?
Y-
Yeah, we were finally able to play music properly.  At that time, we tried the Live House, that's when we starts sending our songs to companies.  Our first show was at 'La Mama' in Shibuya.
I-
That was true beginning of X in Tokyo?
Y-
Yes, we had some fans, some money.  We first bought a car and some equipments for our future concerts, we wanted to make it perfect...
I-
What could you tell me about X albums?
Y-
In 1988 we released for the second time 'Vanishing Vision' and in 1989 we got 'Blue Blood'...
I-
And about concerts?
Y-
Yeah, THAT is a very hard thing to do...  we play our songs 2H30 during, that is very long and I always get lots of pressure.  I mean, I can't sleep, eat...  after concerts we don't want to do anything but sleep...  We have just a  concert, but we feel like we are going to hell.  Sometimes we have a three day in a row concert, such has Nagoya, Kumamoto, Fukuoka, and then Nagoya, Osaka and Kanawasa.  I really don't know why I'm still alive... (laughing)
I-
Yeah, the last time you were really tired, actually, you fainted in the concert.  Health is an important thing, you should take care.
Y-
Yes... I must take care, it's just that I really want to do great concerts.  Anyway, I always get worried and I can't sleep in those times, even if I try...
I-
You really feel that way about concerts?
Y-
Yes, can't eat or sleep.
I-
You only care about X concerts, you should be more careful of yourself.  Sometimes, you fall down after a drum solo...
Y-
No, I take care of myself, but every time I stand on stage, I just forget everything that surounds me.  I just think about doing my best, like if it was my last time...
I-
Hmmm, your health is a big problem for you, right?
Y-
Yes, when I'm in L.A. I fell down often.  A doctor told me that I should stop playing drums or, at least, play it like others do... but for me, drums is my life.  Nobody can stop me, if they do, I'll surely die...
I-
So, what have you done?
Y-
(laughing)  I just don't care what they told me... and I went to L.A. for the album
I-
'Jealousy'
Y-
Yeah.
I-
What about this album?
Y-
Everyone has participed;  hide and Taiji gave me their songs... but we had a little problem, Toshi got a sore throat and some of our staff had trouble with english language.  I, sometimes, cried because of that thing.
I-
And about 'Dahlia' in 1996, it tooks you a very long time to finally made it.
Y-
Yeah, in this album I wanted to show loneliness and emptiness.
I-
Does anybody have ever said : Yoshiki is X, X is Yoshiki, that's why everything is under your consideration?
Y-
No, I never thought that  X was only me.  Everyone is X, hide is X, Toshi is X, Pata is X, Heath is X, Taiji is X, our fans are X... in other words, everyone is X.
